A typical moment connection joins a steel framing beam to a supporting girder. Flange plates are welded to the beam and girder flanges using complete joint penetration welds with specified dimensions. The plate thickness is equal to the beam flange thickness plus one-quarter inch, with a three-eighths inch minimum thickness, and the plate width is equal to the beam flange width plus one and one-half inches. A minimum dimension of zero feet six inches is maintained.
