A typical stringer sized per plan frames into hollow structural section columns with dimensions of 4 x 4 x 1/4 unless noted otherwise. A 1/4 inch bearing plate with two 3/4 inch diameter machine bolts connects the stringer to the support. Three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plates are welded inside the stringer using 3/16 inch fillet welds at column locations B and A with specific edge and spacing dimensions.
