A structural steel beam features a web doubler plate centered on a gusset plate where required. The doubler plate thickness is applied to one side of the web, or split equally to both sides of the web. Edge welding is specified with typical fillet welds, and groove welds must comply with AWS D1.8 clause 4.3.
