Diagonal braces connect to a gusset plate attached to the top flange and web of a steel beam, with a work point established at the intersecting centerlines. Minimum one-half-inch stiffener plates are provided on each side of the beam web aligned with the brace loads. Fillet welds sized at five-sixteenths weld three sides typically.
