An open web steel joist bears directly on a seat angle connected to a steel column flange. The column is capped with a one-half-inch thick cap plate welded below the steel deck. The seat angle is an L5x5x3/8 spanning the width of the column with a one-quarter-inch thick stiffener plate welded underneath. A stabilizer plate measuring six inches by one-half inch by the column width is positioned lower down on the column flange. The joist bearing end is secured using two one-half-inch diameter erection bolts.
