An upper and lower hollow structural section column connect via a one-half-inch thick ASTM A572 Grade 50 splice plate. Both upper and lower column segments attach to the splice plate with complete joint penetration welds. The splice plate is positioned at the top of metal deck with concrete fill level, maintaining a one-inch typical clearance. Steel beams framing into the column sides are detailed per plan with separate typical beam connection details.
