The supported steel beam connects to a wide-flange or hollow structural section column per plan with a maximum half-inch gap. A three-quarter-inch plate welded with a five-sixteenth-inch fillet weld sits atop the column, reinforced by stiffener plates and four three-quarter-inch diameter pretensioned high-strength bolts for wide-flange columns. A half-inch by twelve-inch splice plate is centered on the beam splice on each side, fastened with ASTM A325-N high-strength bolts in horizontal short-slotted holes sized according to the schedule. Additional quarter-inch fillet welds extend to three sides on near and far sides, including demand critical welds noted on structural drawings.
