A five-inch deep steel joist bearing end is secured to a steel column cap plate using two three-quarter-inch diameter A325 erection bolts with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld. The column cap plate has a thickness equal to the beam flange thickness plus one-eighth inch of fifty ksi steel. A continuous bent plate is anchored to an L6x4x5/16 continuous angle with half-inch diameter by five-inch Kwik HUS-EZ anchors at forty-eight inches on center, left unattached to the bearing angle. A hollow structural section measuring 5x5x1/4 is provided between joists for shear transfer and connection of the plate and metal deck, leaving a two-inch joist top chord extension. An L4x3x1/4 angle spans between joist ends with the top leg coped as required for connection to the existing tilt-up wall which provides four inches of bearing.
