Additional reinforcing bars are placed in concrete slabs at specific geometric transitions and intersections to control cracking. Two number four bars measuring four feet in length are installed where control or construction joints intersect but do not continue beyond. Inside corners of recessed or depressed slabs receive similar diagonal reinforcing bars. Column blockouts require supplemental reinforcing bars placed around the perimeter per the plan layout.
