An HSS flat member connects to an HSS post per plan or elevation with a spliced joint. Three-inch return welds sized at one-quarter inch are called out typically at the plate connections. Two 3/8-inch by 6-inch by 0-foot 6-inch top and bottom plates bridge the splice along the hollow structural section. The vertical HSS post aligns below the horizontal member per architectural and structural plans.
