A hollow structural section column frames into a horizontal member using a three-quarter-inch connection plate at the top and bottom. A one-half-inch cap plate is welded to the assembly with a typical one-quarter-inch fillet weld. A clearance of one-half-inch maximum is maintained at the joint intersection. Dimensions indicate an eight-inch spacing from the centerline of the column to the connection face.
