A structural steel post connects to a concrete slab on metal deck using a top embedded plate and two side connection plates. The embedded half-inch thick A36 steel plate features four three-quarter-inch diameter headed studs welded to the top flange with one-and-a-half-inch edge distances. Two three-eighths-inch thick A36 plates are welded to the post sides with a quarter-inch fillet weld. Two seven-eighths-inch diameter A307 through bolts secure the post through two-inch vertical slotted holes in the connection plates, allowing vertical movement with a one-and-a-half-inch maximum clearance.
