An HSS beam connects to the flange of a wide flange column using a one-quarter inch plate welded to the beam end and supported by structural angles below. The beam end plate is welded with a one-quarter inch fillet weld on three sides. Bottom support is provided by an L4x4x3/8 angle nine inches long, fastened with three seven-eighths inch diameter high-strength bolts. A one-eighth inch clearance is maintained between connected steel elements. The wide flange column flange receives the connection assembly with specific vertical and horizontal edge distances.
