A hollow structural section steel beam frames into a structural steel column web utilizing an L4x4x3/8 angle at the top and bottom with a length equal to the column depth. A 3/8-inch plate with a width equal to the column depth plus one inch is attached to the column face, maintaining a maximum half-inch gap. A 3/8-inch by 3-inch plate is welded to each side of the beam web. Five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds secure the angles and plates with typical clearances.
