Concrete slab transitions and vertical steps require specific rebar detailing depending on the step height relative to the slab thickness. When the step height is less than the slab thickness, typical top and bottom bars continue through the transition with a class A lap splice or smaller bar extension of two feet or three times H minimum. For larger step heights, vertical faces require number five stirrups at twelve inches on center with number five bars at twelve inches on center each way and three number seven bars top and bottom. Bottom bars feature hook ends extending into the vertical section while typical slab reinforcing is sized per structural plans.
