A wide-flange beam connects to a framing column using an extended single-plate shear tab welded with a quarter-inch fillet weld of eight-inch maximum size and unslotted bolt holes. The shear tab extends down to the bottom-most continuity plate, adding an extra unslotted bolt below the standard pattern. Horizontal continuity plates weld between the column flanges aligned with the beam flanges. Additional continuity plates are required if the dimension exceeds four and one-half inches. This detail applies to W8, W10, W12, and W14 beams.
