A structural steel stair stringer anchors to a thickened slab on grade using a 3-inch by 3-inch by 3/8-inch by 1-foot-long steel angle clip secured with two 5/8-inch diameter Hilti KB-TZ expansion anchors having a 3-1/8-inch minimum effective embedment. The anchors center within 3-inch long horizontal slotted holes in the angle leg. A 3/16-inch thick cap plate is welded to the stringer with a 1/4-inch fillet weld on three sides. The concrete slab on grade features a 1-foot thick thickened section centered beneath the stringer and is reinforced with two continuous number 4 rebars.
