This assembly facilitates movement at a roof expansion joint between two adjacent steel joists. The connection utilizes two L8x4x7/16 angles, each fifteen inches long, welded to the respective joist top chords with three-sixteenths inch fillet welds on three sides. One angle features three-inch long slotted holes in its vertical leg to allow for thermal expansion, while the other angle has standard holes. The two angles are joined by two three-quarter inch diameter bolts, which are installed finger-tight with scored threads to ensure movement capability. The assembly is spaced at six feet on center, and the overlapping roof deck must remain unattached to the joists at this location to prevent binding.
