A wide-flange beam frames into a hollow structural section column using a three-eighths-inch thick cap plate welded to the top of the HSS and to the top flange of the beam with five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds. A five-by-five-by-three-eighths-inch angle five inches long sits below the bottom flange, welded to the HSS column on three sides with five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds and connected to the beam web with four bolts. A three-eighths-inch by five-inch plate five inches long is welded between the beam top flange and the HSS column with a five-sixteenths-inch fillet weld.
