Metal decking is framed by steel joists below with designated spacing and positioning rules for circular openings. Openings must maintain a maximum dimension of twelve inches and a minimum spacing of three times the opening diameter from center to center. Metal decking splices and ends are restricted from occurring within twenty-four inches clear of any opening. These penetrations are explicitly excluded from supporting mechanical equipment overhead unless supplementary structural framing is provided.
