A wide flange beam frames into the web of a wide flange girder using a full-depth shear plate fastened with high-strength bolts. A shaped plate three-eighths of an inch thick is added where the beam depth is less than half the girder depth or the depth difference exceeds ten inches, while a five-eighths inch plate is used when the depth difference exceeds eighteen inches. Additional bolts are provided at the top and bottom faces of the web where the shaped plate occurs, and supplementary fillet welds are applied to the stiffener and connection assembly.
