A structural steel column is reinforced with cover plates on each side welded to the flange tips. The cover plates measure three-quarters of an inch thick typically and extend along the column height with specified section cuts designating continuous and intermittent fillet weld configurations. Section A-A shows the cover plate welded with five-sixteenths inch typical fillet welds along the flange edges. Section B-B shows the cover plate welded with five-sixteenths inch intermittent fillet welds spaced at three inches on center with twelve-inch increments.
