A hollow structural section steel column terminates below a timber beam and receives a 1/4-inch steel cap plate secured with a continuous seam weld. A 3/8-inch by 6-inch by 0'-7" plate is attached to each side of the HSS column. Two 7/8-inch diameter A449 through-bolts fasten the connection through the vertical laminated strand lumber member, installed finger tight with grease plies. A 1-inch clearance is maintained between the top of the column assembly and the underside of the structural member.
