A hollow structural section drop member is bolted to the underside of a steel beam via top and bottom bearing plates. Each three-eighths-inch thick by twenty-inch wide by one-foot eight-inch long bearing plate is fastened with four one-half-inch diameter A325-N bolts, with plates aligned to the beam flange and permitted to extend a maximum of one inch beyond. A twelve-gauge splay wire brace connects to the lower plate per the bracing key plan, featuring four tight turns within one and one-half inches from both ends. Section A-A details the bolt pattern and edge distances meeting American Institute of Steel Construction minimum requirements.
