A structural steel column shape is embedded within a reinforced concrete column section that intersects with concrete walls. The assembly is heavily reinforced with twenty-two number 18 vertical bars and eight additional number 10 vertical bars, supplemented by typical additional number 7 vertical reinforcing bars. Shear studs measuring three-quarters of an inch in diameter by four and a half inches long are welded to the structural steel shape to anchor it within the surrounding concrete mass. Intersecting concrete walls tie into the column with continuous reinforcing steel details.
