A buckling-restrained brace connects to a gusset plate welded to a steel column and beam assembly. The gusset plate is attached with complete joint penetration welds on three sides, and three-quarter-inch thick stiffener plates are positioned in four places. A backing plate measuring three-eighths by four inches by one foot four inches includes two three-quarter-inch diameter erection bolts. The concrete over metal deck is sized per plan, and the brace and its bolted connection are provided by the buckling-restrained brace manufacturer.
