A soldier pile is installed in a drilled shaft extending at least one foot deeper than the tip of the pile, with the toe embedded in a minimum of 500 PSI lean concrete. Wood lagging spans between soldier piles down to the bottom of the excavation to retain soil. The soldier pile shaft is backfilled with lean concrete from the bottom up. Inclined tiebacks penetrate the earth through the wall, featuring defined unbonded no-load zones near the face and bonded lengths extending into stable soil strata.
