An HSS5x5x1/2 structural steel member connects to a vertical hollow structural section post with a one-inch clearance gap maintained at the column face. An L4x4x3/8 seat angle welded beneath the horizontal member provides vertical support, supplemented by a 3/8-inch thick top plate welded top and bottom. Fillet welds of 1/4-inch size secure the connection plates and angles to the supporting post and framing members.
