A hollow structural section column bears on a base plate over three-quarters of an inch of non-shrink grout. The base plate sits atop a concrete footing with reinforcing steel sized per plan, bearing on a layer of compacted granular non-frost susceptible fill per the geotechnical engineer. A slab thickening over the footing transitions to the slab on grade, which features crack control cuts per typical details. All steel elements positioned below the concrete slab are protected with Galvacon paint on all exposed edges. The footing depth maintains a minimum of one foot six inches or meets the required local frost depth.
