An open web steel joist bears directly on the top flange of a supporting steel beam with a metal deck spanning above. The joist is secured with field welds sized at one-eighth inch with two-inch long segments typically applied on both sides. A three-sixteenth inch typical weld connects the supporting structural elements below. A continuous angle member is positioned at the deck edge.
