Two wide flange steel beams are joined end-to-end with a half-inch gap located at one quarter span from the support as specified on plan. The connection is made using splice plates whose thickness equals the web thickness plus one quarter inch, bolted with a quantity and size defined in the non-moment beam connection schedule. The splice plate is welded with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld on three sides unless noted otherwise.
