A W24 wide-flange steel beam is spliced using a three-quarter-inch by eight-inch plate at the bottom and a half-inch plate at the top flange, secured with rows of bolts typically spaced at three inches and two inches. Fillet welds of five-sixteenths inch size connect the components. An end plate is attached with a vertical line of five bolts.
