This assembly consists of a 4-inch thick ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel base plate supporting a wide-flange column. The connection is secured by eleven 2-inch diameter ASTM F1554 Grade 105 fully threaded anchor bolts, each passing through a 3 1/4-inch diameter hole in the base plate with a 3-foot embedment depth. Each anchor bolt is fitted with a 3/4-inch by 5-inch square plate washer with a standard hole. The column flanges are connected to the base plate using complete joint penetration welds with demand critical welds. A shear lug is provided below the base plate, and 1-inch diameter inspection holes are located throughout the plate. The slab-on-grade is omitted for clarity, and anchor rods must be tested to achieve the specified material tensile capacity with a 14% minimum elongation.
