Two steel beams connect to opposite sides of a structural steel column centerline using typical shear tabs and moment plates. The top plate thickness is sized to match the greater of the intersecting beam flange thicknesses, and connects with complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom flanges of both beams. Shear tabs are welded to the column web with fillet welds sized at half the plate thickness, and bolted connections secure the beam webs per plan. Fillet welds of five-sixteenths inch typical are applied at the connection assembly as noted.
