A structural steel column connects to a concrete foundation through a base plate secured by four three-quarter-inch diameter anchor rods with a one-foot minimum embedment. The column end and base plate are finished per AISC standards, and a five-sixteenths inch fillet weld secures the column to the base plate. Non-shrink grout fills the one-and-a-half-inch space beneath the base plate to the top of concrete elevation. The contractor must hold the base plate rigidly in place while grouting.
