A structural steel beam pocket bears on a base plate embedded in a masonry wall. The assembly features a steel section sized per plan welded to a half-inch by fourteen-inch plate, dimensioned six inches wide at eight-inch walls or eight inches wide at ten-inch walls. Three number four by two-foot ASTM A706 dowels are centered on the plate and welded per structural sheet S6.01 with quarter-inch welds. Two five-eighths-inch by five-inch headed studs are welded to each side of the web. The entire beam pocket is filled with three-thousand PSI high-strength non-shrink grout.
