A cast-in-place concrete grade beam supports a slab on grade. The rectangular grade beam section contains continuous top bars, bottom bars, and optional top-added or bottom-added reinforcing bars sized per the structural schedule. Enclosing stirrups wrap the primary longitudinal steel, supplemented by number five bars each face for beam depths greater than thirty inches. The adjacent slab on grade bears directly on the upper haunch of the grade beam.
