The hollow structural section column is welded to a base plate with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds applied typically around the perimeter. Four triangular stiffener plates, each twenty-two inches in height, are welded to the column and the base plate. The assembly is secured to the reinforced concrete footing by four anchor rods, each equipped with double nuts at the top and bearing plates at the bottom. The footing size and reinforcing layout are determined per the structural plan and schedule.
