A wide-flange beam frames into a wide-flange or hollow structural section column flange using a welded shear plate connection. A half-inch thick plate with a yield strength of fifty ksi is centered on the beam web and welded to the column. Two columns by n rows of one-inch diameter A490 slip-critical bolts fasten the beam web to the shear plate. A companion schedule dictates the number of bolt rows and corresponding fillet weld sizes ranging from five-sixteenths to seven-sixteenths of an inch.
