A reinforced concrete stair is supported by 90% compacted fill and a cast-in-place concrete footing. The stair slab is reinforced with #3 bars spaced at 12 inches on center each way, supplemented by #3 nosing bars typically placed at each tread edge. Two #4 bars run longitudinally within the concrete footing. The base rests on compacted fill over undisturbed earth, adjacent to an asphaltic concrete paving or concrete slab.
