Continuity plates are welded to the steel column web and flanges aligned with the strong axis, extending flush with the column flange edge. Weld tabs must be removed, and the weld ends ground smooth to 500 micro-inches surface roughness without gouging the column flange. A minimum one-half inch radius is provided at the plate corner. All welding must avoid the K-area of the column.
