This structural steel connection joins a beam to a column flange using a typical shear plate and a five-eighths-inch minimum column cap plate coordinated with other details. Three-quarter-inch stiffener plates are welded to the beam flange typically with three-eighths-inch fillet welds on three sides, and extended to the web for wide-flange shapes of W30 or deeper. Additional one-half-inch stiffener plates are provided on the opposite side of the web only when required for connections to W30 or deeper columns. Fillet welds of three-eighths-inch and five-eighths-inch secure the components per schedule requirements.
