A hollow structural section beam frames into a wide flange beam supported by three-eighths-inch-thick stiffener plates welded to each side of the hollow structural section. The top of the hollow structural section beam is coped as required. A quarter-inch minimum fillet weld connects the hollow structural section to the stiffener plate. A quarter-inch fillet weld secures the stiffener to the wide flange beam on three sides.
