A moment connection joins steel beams of different depths to a steel column flange. The connection utilizes bolted shear tabs at the beam webs, with the shear tab thickness equal to the beam web thickness plus one-quarter inch, and a second row of bolts as required by plan. Continuity plates are installed at the top and bottom flange levels using the larger thickness of the two connecting beam flanges. Fillet welds secure the continuity plates to the column flanges typically unless noted otherwise. Sloped bottom plates are detailed where slopes are less than three inches.
