A buckling-restrained braced frame column base plate connection is anchored to a large embed plate. A thick embed plate measuring 1 inch by 27 inches by 2 feet 6 inches is centered on the column, featuring thirty-five welded number 6 rebar anchors at 4-inch spacing each way below the plate. The column base plate connects to the embed assembly with a shear plate and a gusset plate sized per the buckling-restrained brace manufacturer. Welds conform to D1.8 seismic welding standards, including complete joint penetration welds on the column flanges and 5/16-inch fillet welds on the web and shear plate. Square washer plates measuring 1 inch by 5 inches in Grade 50 steel are provided with standard holes per AISC recommendations. A typical 2-inch diameter grout hole is provided through the base plate, resting above a grout layer set upon the foundation.
