A steel column connects to a steel beam per plan or elevation via a base bearing plate secured with anchor bolts and nuts. Where no intersecting beam occurs, a 1/4-inch by d/2 minimum stiffener plate is provided on each side of the beam web, welded with a typical 1/4-inch fillet weld. Shear plates are extended for intersecting beams to the top flange on each side.
