This assembly consists of a steel column supported by a 1 1/2-inch thick ASTM A572 Grade 50 base plate, anchored by four 1 1/2-inch diameter anchor rods. A buckling restrained brace connects to the column via an A572 Grade 50 gusset plate, which is welded to the column flange and base plate using 5/16-inch fillet welds. The base plate includes 1 1/4-inch by 4-inch by 9-inch shear lugs aligned with the column flange face, requiring a block-out in the footing or plinth to be filled with non-shrink grout. The connection is set on a 1 1/2-inch layer of non-shrink grout above the top of footing. A 1 1/2-inch by 1 1/2-inch clip is provided at the gusset-to-base plate junction, and specific weld sizes for the gusset and shear lugs are designated by variables Wc, Lwc1, Wb1, and Lwb1.
