A thickened concrete slab edge transitions down to a stem wall bearing on subgrade, with finish grade or paving positioned per architectural drawings. Continuous number four reinforcing bars run horizontally through the slab and stem wall, terminating in standard hooks at the outer edge. The thickened edge features an eight-inch horizontal bottom dimension and a one-foot minimum vertical clearance to finish grade. Additional slab reinforcing is placed typically as specified on the foundation plan.
