A built-up steel stair stringer is composed of four three-eighths-inch thick plates welded at the corners with complete joint penetration welds ground smooth at the surface. A one-quarter-inch tread plate with a bent leg up and down spans between three-quarter-inch vertical riser plates. A vertical plate connects the tread assembly to the built-up stringer section. The stringer features a two-foot-two-inch maximum cantilever with dimensions coordinated with architectural drawings.
