About this detail

Roof anchor and bracing connections occur at a steel beam supporting metal roof deck and open-web steel joists. The left assembly features a bracing angle attached to a gusset plate measuring one-quarter inch by six inches by zero feet six inches, welded with typical one-quarter inch fillet welds and reinforced at the joist attachment per detail when the bracing angle is located further than six inches from a panel point. The right assembly includes a perpendicular joist-to-beam connection featuring a full-depth three-eighths inch connection plate, web plate provided by the joist supplier, three-eighths inch minimum at the roof anchor, and a bolted connection coordinated with the joist supplier to resist an end-applied moment of ten kip-feet, with a similar condition noting no web stiffness is needed at the side without a joist.
